CPA Canada to offer an additional writing of the Common Final Examination

The challenging three-day examination will be available in May and September for 2020

In 2020, CPA Canada will offer a second writing of the profession’s Common Final Examination (CFE). The three-day exam will be available for two sessions, from May 27 to 29 and September 9 to 11, 2020.

The CFE assesses candidates seeking a CPA designation on the technical and enabling competencies outlined in the CPA Competency Map. It is an integral part of the Canadian CPA certification program, which includes in-depth education and practical work experience.

“Flexibility around a key component of the certification process is important, especially with multiple paths available for individuals interested in becoming a Canadian CPA,” explains Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CPA Canada.

Paths to pursuing a Canadian CPA designation are open to candidates from different fields, including those already in the workforce, internationally-trained professionals, new business graduates, and more. However, only those who complete the entire qualification program are permitted to use the designation of CPA.

“The Canadian CPA certification program is consciously adapting to today’s rapidly changing business world,” adds Thomas. “There are definite advantages for our profession based on the skill set of Canadian CPAs; the ability to think creatively, to apply judgment and integrity, to analyze and manage and keep data secure.”
