CPA Canada’s role in country’s bid to host the ISSB commended

Canada is bidding to host the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, commends CPA Canada for its role in the Canadian bid that features extensive support.

Mr. Carney made his remarks about CPA Canada’s efforts during a recent interview with Pivot magazine, our organization’s award-winning flagship publication. He told Pivot that “he can’t emphasize enough how important the International Sustainability Standards Board is.”

Currently, there are multiple frameworks and sustainability standards, but no widely accepted global standards. Under the authority of the IFRS Foundation, the ISSB would be charged with developing and implementing global standards for reporting on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters. The IFRS Foundation Trustees are expected to officially announce their decision on the ISSB during the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, in November. The full interview with Mr. Carney will appear in the November/December 2021 edition of Pivot.
