As a podcast genre, technology trails in popularity only to music, TV and movies and comedy. It stands to reason that those embracing new media would have a big appetite for all things tech.

Tech trends could also hold special significance to CPAs, as more organizations utilize data science, machine learning, AI and the latest in tech hardware. If that sounds more intriguing than intimidating, here are six technology podcasts to give you a glimpse into the present and future.

TED TALKS TECHNOLOGY

One of the golden rules of TED Talks is that, no matter how famous, influential or wealthy the speaker, it shouldn’t last longer than 18 minutes—long enough to be serious, but short enough to hold people’s attention span. TED Talks Technology stays within that limit and still brings inspiring content from the world’s leading inventors, researchers and experts. Learn more about augmented reality, the future of shopping, how tech companies manipulate our emotions and the important question of whether a robot could pass a university entrance exam.

AI IN INDUSTRY

Ready for the era of AI disruption in your industry? This podcast explores the trends, applications and implications of artificial intelligence. Each week, host Daniel Faggella interviews top AI and machine learning-focused executives and researchers in sectors like pharma, banking and defence. The episodes average about 30 minutes in length, so you won’t be overwhelmed by complex topics.

WOMEN IN DATA SCIENCE

Data science is changing and improving things from healthcare, to seismology to human rights and more. The Women in Data Science (WiDS) podcasts give listeners the opportunity to hear from women across the profession, as they share advice, insight and lessons learned in their career. Host Margot Gerritsen, a professor at Stanford University, co-founded WiDS in 2015. Recent interviews include Meltem Ballan, a data scientist working on Connected Cars at General Motors and Elena Grewal, Airbnb’s chief data scientist.

MAC POWER USERS

The podcast provides all the tips and tricks you could ever want to help you get the most out of your Apple technology. Their motto: Creating Mac Power Users, one geek at a time since 2009. While the podcast is named for Macs, episodes cover how to best use all Apple products. Learn about keyboard hacks, how to set up your home office, browser pros and cons, and more.

TECHSTUFF

From the popular How Stuff Works website, TechStuff is a podcast about technology, the people behind the tech, the companies that market it and how technology affects our lives and culture. Host Jonathan Strickland launched the show all the way back in 2008. Always timely, one recent episode looks at how companies like Google, Amazon and Facebook have all admitted to listening in on users; while another episode explores the future of DNA and computing.

DATA SKEPTIC

One of the best-known data science podcasts out there, Data Skeptic is going strong with nearly 300 episodes. The weekly show hosted by Kyle Polich explores topics in data science, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and more. The episodes alternate between interviews with industry professionals and minisodes that explain high-level data science concepts.
