John Bain

John is a partner at KPMG LLP based in Toronto and with 24 years of commodity tax experience in Canada and the E.U. He started with KPMG in the U.K. where he spent three years advising on VAT issues. Currently, John leads KPMG’s Indirect Tax Practice and is the Americas region leader for Indirect Tax Services. He is recognized as an indirect tax leader in the International Tax Review's "Comprehensive guide to the world’s leading indirect tax advisers." He advises a wide array of clients on the application of Canadian and global commodity taxes.

John began his career in the public service having worked at the Department of Finance, the European Commission and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). John is past chair of the Commodity Tax Committee for Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) and a participant in the GST Leaders Forum. He has participated in working groups at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Trade Organization.
