Jason Charron

Jason joined the federal public service in 2002 having previously worked in several innovation sectors in the private industry. Over the years he has held various executive positions at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada (TBS) and now the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Jason has held Director General (DG) positions at the CRA in the Compliance Programs Branch. Since 2018. He initially joined as the DG of the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Directorate which provides tax incentives to businesses conducting research and development in Canada. Currently, Jason is the DG of the Small and Medium Enterprise Directorate (SMED). As SMED DG, Jason is accountable for compliance programs for over 9 million business taxpayers. Additionally, He is  responsible for the development of national strategies and agency-wide compliance approaches, which requires extensive collaboration and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including other government departments and industry representatives.

A Certified Professional Accountant by designation, Jason received his Bachelor of Commerce (honours) in International Management and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.
