Canadian CPAs seeking membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

Learn about the eligibility of Canadian CPAs applying for membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) under the memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Effective November 19, 2018, the Memorandum of Understanding on Reciprocal Membership Arrangements (MOU) was ratified between all Canadian CPA bodies and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

CPA members seeking membership with the ICAI

Members in good standing with a Canadian provincial/regional CPA body who have:

  • more than two years of post-designation experience will be eligible for non-voting membership with the ICAI with no additional review of their experience
  • less than two years of post-designation experience will be subject to a review of their practical experience obtained pre- and post-qualification

All experience must have been gained as a member or student of a Canadian provincial/regional CPA body.

Members of a Canadian provincial/regional CPA body who fulfill the above conditions will also be required to pass the papers of Corporate and Allied Laws and Taxation.

CPA members seeking the rights to practice public accounting as a Chartered Accountant in India

Access to audit rights and the ability to certify any document are not part of this MOU. CPA members may be required to meet further requirements to gain access to these rights.
