Eric Santor
Eric has been Advisor to the Governor on Digitalization at Bank of Canada since March of 2019. He leads the bank’s digitalization work, which includes research on the impact digitalization has on the economy and financial system. He also leads the initiative to incorporate artificial intelligence, machine learning and other technologies into the bank’s operations alongside big data. This involves leveraging programs such as Partnerships in Innovation and Technology (PIVOT) and the bank’s relationship with the Creative Destruction Lab.
In 2001, Eric joined Bank of Canada as an economist in the former Monetary and Financial Analysis department. Two years later, he moved to the International Economic Analysis department, where he assumed increasing responsibilities that led to him becoming Managing Director in 2013. He served as Managing Director of the bank’s Canadian Economic Analysis department before being appointed Advisor to the Governor on Digitalization.
Eric’s research focuses on issues relating to the incidence and effects of unconventional monetary policy, the international monetary system and global financial architecture, and the impact of ownership structure on Canadian firms. He was born in London, Ontario, and obtained a BA in History and Political Science at Huron College, University of Western Ontario. He also has a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto.
