Tony Atkinson

FCPA, CPA

Tony holds a professional teaching position in the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a graduate of Queen’s University (Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration) and Carnegie Mellon University (Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy).

Tony is the co-author of three accounting texts and the author or co-author of more than 40 articles that have appeared in academic and professional journals. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) awarded Tony five Awards of Merit for articles he authored or co-authored that were published in professional journals. In 1989, The Canadian Academic Accounting Association awarded Tony the Haim Falk Award for Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Thought.

Tony contributed to the development of the costing standards (1031-2) used by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (SMAC) commissioned Tony to develop its management accounting costing standards and Treasury Board Canada’s Guide to Costing acknowledges these SMAC management accounting standards as a definitive reference for its standards.
