Andrew (Sandy) Hilton

MA, PhD, FCPA, FCA

Sandy is CPA Canada’s vice-president, Pre-certification Education, providing strategic direction and operational oversight to the development of the CPA certification program, the CPA Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF), and all related examinations.

He earned his chartered accounting designation in 1998 and holds a PhD in accounting, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor of science degree in math/statistics. Before joining CPA Canada, Sandy held a variety of academic positions at the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta.

In 2013, Sandy joined CPA Canada as director of professional education programs. In this role, he was instrumental in developing and implementing the CPA professional education program (PEP) and the former CPA prerequisite education program (PREP), today’s CPA preparatory courses. He was also involved in the launch of the ACAF program.

Sandy serves as associate editor for Issues in Accounting Education and sits on the editorial board of Accounting Perspectives. Previously, he was a council member for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC, chair of the CICA Competency Map Committee, chair of the Education Committee of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association and vice-chair of the BC CA Education Foundation.
