Mark Lai

ECOH Management Inc. is an Environmental Health and Safety consulting firm with an expert team that includes some of Canada’s most experienced hazardous materials professionals. Over Mark's 30-year career, ECOH’s President Mark Lai has designed and supervised complex hazardous materials abatement projects across Canada and has worked with Ontario’s pioneers in the development of asbestos-related health and safety regulations and procedures.

Mark’s collaborative and pragmatic problem-solving skills have resulted in “out-of- the-box” solutions to complex environmental challenges. In 2008, following the Sunrise Propane plant explosion in Toronto, when asbestos debris “rained” onto the surrounding community, Mark designed site-specific methods and supervised a remarkable cooperative clean-up effort, satisfying regulators and community stakeholders alike. When COVID-19 caused confusion and business chaos, Mark established a task force of medical and health & safety professionals, that has since provided high-level guidance to branches of government as well as the property management sector. ECOH’s recently launched DOT program (Design, Oversight, Test), provides cleaning standards and clarity surrounding disinfection of indoor public spaces.

Mark’s philanthropic contributions include pro bono expertise to several non-profit organizations and to less developed communities around the world. Most recently Mark was part of an international team of experts assessing “Asbestos City” – an asbestos contaminated community in central India.
