Larry was born and raised in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He worked as a finance manager with Newfoundland Telephone while he obtained his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation. In 1988, he began working as an investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities.
Larry moved to TD Waterhouse in 2002 as Senior Investment Advisor and Vice-President. In 2008, wanting to make a fundamental change in his wealth management practice, Larry and his team moved to Dundee Wealth and established ShortFinancial. The growth of his team continued, expanding to include Curtis Porter and Kimberley Short as Partners at ShortFinancial, now with iA Private Wealth.
Larry's wealth management practice is in its 34th year of business. Over the years, Larry has worked and achieved numerous professional designations including, Certified Financial Planner® Professional (CFP®), Certified Investment Manager (CIM®), as well as portfolio manager. Larry’s commitment to continuing education continues to serve his practice and his clients well. One of Larry’s core values is his belief in the need to enhance financial literacy for all. Larry is the author of In Short: Successful Investing During Turbulent Times (iUniverse, Inc. 2012), and In Short: Secrets to Make Your Dollars Grow (Doubleday 1998).
