Don Carson

Don is the National Leader of MNP’s Transaction Tax Services Group and a member of MNP’s Tax Executive Committee. Based in MNP’s GTA Region, Don is a tax partner who specializes in issues affecting entrepreneurs and other high-net-worth individuals.

Don has been involved in structuring the sale of numerous Canadian private companies with sale locations spanning the country. He has extensive experience with Canadian personal taxation, estate planning, will and probate fee planning and corporate reorganizations. Other areas in which Don is highly experienced include planning for the purchase or sale of a business, charitable giving strategies, tax issues and assorted issues affecting Canadian public real estate investment trusts and corporations.

Don has assisted the CPA Canada and national media outlets with their federal and Ontario budget analyses, and has participated in several television and radio interviews. He has written and presented his papers at the Canadian Tax Foundation’s (CTF’s) Ontario Tax and British Columbia Conferences, and from 2009 to 2016, he was a member of the Ontario Tax Conference’s Program Committee. From 2016 to 2019 inclusive, Don was a Governor of the CTF, a Member of the CTF’s Board of Governors’ Executive Committee and Chair of the CTF’s Finance Committee. He is a frequent contributor to the CTF’s monthly publication, Canadian Tax Highlights, and has written articles for CCH AnswerConnect Canada’s Weekly Tax Topics publication. Don has presented at several other conferences and taught at the Tax Week at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario’s School of Accountancy for three years. From 2003 to 2008 and in 2011, Don acted as a tutorial leader for the CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program and, from 2009 to 2017, as a tutorial leader for the CPA Canada’s Advanced Issues for the Owner-Managed Business Program. From 2015 through 2018, Don was a lecturer for Part I of CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program and, starting in 2018, Don is a lecturer for CPA Canada’s Owner-Managed Business Program.

Don is a Chartered Professional Accountant and an active member of the CTF. He graduated with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University’s Bachelor of Business Administration Co-Op program in 1995.
