Chris Gimpel

Chris joined Deloitte in 2001 and is a partner in the Business Tax group in Vancouver, where he has led Deloitte’s involvement in multibillion-dollar transactions in the financial, mining, transportation and resource sectors. He has more than 20 years of experience with global tax compliance management and reporting in both public practice and industry. During this time, he has worked with many private equity groups in assessing Canadian acquisitions. He has led due diligence engagements for an international currency exchange broker, an Internet payment processing company, a platinum mining company and others. Prior to joining Deloitte, Chris was responsible for the management and coordination of the global tax function at Intrawest Corporation, a Canadian multinational real estate corporation.

Chris has been a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation since 1995 and was a panelist at the British Columbia Tax Conference in 2002. He is very active in speaking and teaching in the community. Since 2002, he has been a regular lecturer/tutor for the In-Depth Tax program offered by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (formerly Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants), and has lectured or presented for the BC International Financial Centre (now called Advantage BC), the Federated Press and Acumen Information Services. Internationally, Chris lectured on international tax matters at BC House in Turin, Italy, during the 2006 Winter Olympics and has presented for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in London, Paris, Brussels, Basel and Frankfurt.

Chris also volunteers his time with various charitable organizations. He is past chair of the Board of Directors for the Arts Club Theatre Society and is currently the chair of the foundation’s board. Chris also serves on the Board of Directors for Advantage BC, a role he has held since 2009, and is a member of the Canadian Captive Insurance Association board of directors.
