Brian and Laura are the principals of Friedrich & Friedrich corporation, an accounting research, standards, and education firm with over 15 years experience conducting projects throughout North and South America, Asia and Eastern Europe. The firm’s major projects focus on determining and implementing best practices in competency-based accounting education and experience assessment, providing policy, procedure and governance guidance; developing courses, examinations, and other assessments; as well as supporting the development of accounting education and ethics standards in Canada and internationally. Prior to launching their firm, they spent several years in the assurance practice of KPMG LLP, as well as working in industry and education. Both Brian and Laura have served as authors, curriculum developers, lecturers, exam developers, and markers for numerous post-secondary courses in Canada, China and the Caribbean, and have led more than 150 professional development sessions across a wide range of topics including governance, leadership, ethics, project management, item development and IFRS and ISAs. As a result of their volunteer involvement with the profession, Brian and Laura were presented with the inaugural Ambassador of Distinction Award, the JM Macbeth Award for service at the Chapter level and the President’s Award for Education. Brian and Laura are also Fellows of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (FCGA) and Life Members of CGA-BC.
