Brian Emmett

Born in Sarnia, Ontario, Brian studied economics at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. He holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Essex in England and completed postgraduate work at the University of Western Ontario.

Brian has had an extensive career in public policy in both the developed and developing world, including Energy Mines and Resources (now Natural Resources Canada), the Department of Minerals and Energy in Papua New Guinea, Environment Canada, the Auditor General of Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency. In 2007, he retired from his position as assistant deputy minister, Strategic Policy Sector, Natural Resources Canada. He then joined Sussex Circle, an Ottawa-based consultancy, as a principal. 

In 2013, Brian joined Imagine Canada in the role of chief economist for the charitable and not-for-profit sector. As chief economist, Brian is tasked with measuring the impact of the sector and bringing economic issues facing charities and not-for-profits to the attention of public policy decision makers.
