Karen started her career in government at Statistics Canada in 1997, and then moved to the Department of Finance in 2000, working there for 13 years including 10 years in the Tax Policy Branch. Karen moved to the Canada Revenue Agency in 2013; her experience at the agency includes launching and running the agency’s innovation lab from 2014 to 2016. Karen is currently the director general of the Benefit Programs Directorate in the Assessment, Benefit, and Service Branch.

Karen holds a BA (Honours) from Queen’s University and a Master of Arts from the University of Calgary, both in political science. She also holds a certificate in Regulatory Leadership from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. She is married with two school-age children.
