Strategic Management Accounting Review Committee (SMARC)

The Strategic Management Accounting Review Committee (SMARC) plays an integral role in the development and delivery of Management Accounting Guideline (MAG®) products to prepare CPAs to address day-to-day business issues and disruptions that impact strategic and operational decision-making.

THE COMMITTEE'S MISSION

  • support CPA Canada in producing MAG® products (i.e. practical guidelines and case studies) through identifying, commenting, influencing and advising on existing and emerging business issues and opportunities that affect the accounting profession in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors
  • assist in the identification and prioritization of emerging business topics in the areas of sustainability and data focusing on strategy, risk management, performance management, financial management, and technology to support decision-making
  • provide insight, foresight, and recommendations on emerging research topics, concepts, frameworks, tools, techniques, etc. as it relates to various topics to develop MAG® products for CPAs

Through this work, CPA Canada enhances the influence, relevance and value of the Canadian CPA profession by:

  • supporting its members
  • contributing to Canada's economic and social development

MEMBERSHIP

SMARC membership is comprised of professionals with expertise, experience and an interest in strategy, risk management, financial management, performance management, data/technology, climate change and sustainability as it affects the CPA profession, including members from:

  • public sector
  • private sector
  • academia
