Three Manitoba bodies announce merger agreement

The CA, CMA, and CGA Manitoba Council and Boards agree to the terms of a merger that would unite the three professions.

Today, CA, CMA, and CGA members in Manitoba were informed that their respective Council and Boards have agreed to the terms of a merger that would unite the three self-regulated professions under the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

The merger agreement will be presented to the CGA membership prior to year end. In accordance with CGA Manitoba by-laws, members will be asked to approve the agreement through a member vote. Online voting is expected to commence mid-January, with a special general member meeting held before the end of January to determine the results. With a successful vote, the three organizations will work together with the provincial government to enact CPA legislation that legally merges Manitoba’s accounting profession and establishes CPA Manitoba – one of the largest professional organizations in the province with over 9500 members, candidates, and students.

Until such time as legislative changes are enacted, CA, CMA, and CGA members will maintain their current designation, and the three organizations will continue their existing mandates of self-regulation, education, and advocacy.
