CGAs enter exploratory merger talks in Ontario

CGA Ontario joins CMA Ontario and ICAO in exploratory unification talks.

CGA Ontario has announced to its members that it has agreed to begin exploratory discussions with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) and CMA Ontario about the possibility of the three accountancy bodies merging in that province. CMA Ontario and ICAO have informed their members of this development. We understand that CGA Ontario has agreed with the eight overarching principles – developed jointly by the CAs and CMAs – that have been guiding this process from inception.

While we have just completed a consultation regarding the possibility of a two-way merger between the CA and CMA bodies, we’ve always left the door open for the CGAs to enter this discussion. In fact, as noted in previous updates, all three accountancy bodies in Quebec are officially in merger talks that may lead to the creation of a new body and designation in that province.

At this point, the CA and CMA leadership bodies are reviewing the results of the past four months of consultation and a report will be issued shortly. We will continue to keep you informed of any new developments.
