Bryan Sommer: Making a difference with financial literacy

Learn how this volunteer takes a leadership role in his community through his commitment to our financial literacy volunteer program.

Recently becoming a father himself, Bryan Sommer is concerned that kids today have a big knowledge-gap in their financial literacy skills. As a CPA, CA, CFP, CIM, Bryan is an investment advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy and has always had a passion for financial literacy (his father was a financial planner for more than 30 years).

Having a strong financial background, Bryan realized he could use his experience to give back to his community and make a difference in the lives of children in the neighbourhood. In the past year he has volunteered with our financial literacy program to share his knowledge and expertise.  Helping Canadians improve their financial planning and management skills has given his life an added dimension and new purpose.

Bryan urges his colleagues in the profession to join the financial literacy volunteer program as it is a rewarding opportunity. “It’s easy to say you are too busy and you’ll do it later, but I guarantee you will have wished you volunteered earlier once you start. If I were to wait until my retirement to volunteer and give back, I would have missed out on this fulfilling opportunity.”
