Principal, Auditing and Assurance Standards CPA Canada is the national organization representing the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) profession in Canada. The Opportunity The Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) serves the public interest by setting standards and guidance and assisting with their implementation to enable the provision of high-quality, value-added and relevant auditing, other assurance and related services in Canada. The AASB is actively involved in adopting international standards, and developing domestic standards, that are fit for purpose in the Canadian environment. You will be a member of a highly skilled, energetic and committed team of professionals supporting the AASB. Working directly with senior professionals, you will be developing auditing and other assurance standards and other guidance for practitioners. This requires you to work within a globally-respected due process involving extensive consultation with internal and external Canadian and international stakeholders to craft standards to be applied across the Canadian assurance profession. The Position Demonstrating the key competencies of critical thinking and problem solving, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, you will need to: keep the public interest top of mind as you identify issues, explore alternatives, propose solutions and prepare any necessary materials assume a leadership role on assigned projects, including being proactive in responding to challenges that can arise during the project life be adaptable in communicating with a variety of stakeholders, including writing succinctly in plain English, on complex topics be comfortable interacting with colleagues, board members and other stakeholders, including identifying and resolving conflicts and achieving collaborative outcomes establish and nurture senior level contacts with various stakeholder groups and international standard setters The Candidate The preferred candidate will be a professional accountant with at least six years post-qualifying experience, possessing the following attributes and skills: a passion for the technical aspects of standards An ability to apply technical skills to practical situations, and vice versa, using sound judgment and integrity. An active listener who can understand different perspectives when developing creative solutions to complex problems. The ability to manage and be accountable for completion of complex projects according to plan. The confidence to speak up and perform with tact and diplomacy. An effective writer and presenter. In-depth knowledge of assurance standards. A team player. Fluency in English is required and French is desirable. Other matters This position is based in Toronto. Some travel is required.
