Manager, Member and Student Development

Reporting to the director, International Programs (75%) and vice-president, International (25%), this position manages the competency compliance process for candidates in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) and provides support for international CPA members and international chapters.

The Opportunity

The International Group is dedicated to building the profile of the Canadian CPA profession internationally.  This includes supporting the accounting profession in the markets where CPA Canada has an active presence and working with new, developing economies and professional accountancy organizations (PAOs) to support their growth and development.

The position will also be responsible for verifying that all certification requirements are met by candidates and that completed files are put forth for certification/membership as a CPA.

The role will assist Chapters and members in managing budgets, governance oversight and organizing professional development learning (PLD) events.

In this role, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • assess practical experience reported by candidates to ensure standards and competencies met
  • work with employers to obtain preapproved program status and provide continued support
  • oversee the mentorship program for members and candidates
  • represent International on related National working groups
  • work with Post Secondary Institutions (PSI) to map courses as prerequisites for CPA PEP
  • identify/work with PSIs to obtain Accredited status
  • work with Chapters to plan relevant PD events, networking opportunities, hire 3rd party speakers
  • oversee Chapter budgeting/spending
  • review minutes of Chapter meetings/provide board support and guidance
  • work with stakeholders to increase member engagement

The Candidate

The Ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • university degree, CPA designation preferred
  • education program delivery – 6 years
  • previous experience with competency assessment
  • strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • experience with volunteers and member engagement
  • strong attention to detail and accuracy and ability to prioritize
  • excellent interpersonal skills with superior verbal and written communication abilities
  • intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal groups, regional/provincial bodies and other stakeholders
