The Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) serves the public interest by establishing accounting standards for use by all Canadian entities outside the public sector. It plays a global leadership role in influencing the development of IFRS Standards development ensuring that the perspectives of Canadian stakeholders are considered. The Opportunity Reporting to the Vice President, the Director, Accounting Standards will direct a team of highly skilled, energetic and committed professionals to advise and carry out the plans of the AcSB. This will include: Leadership of the Accounting Standards function with overall responsibility for team effectiveness and the technical standards agenda in project planning, prioritization and adherence with due process. Providing strategic advice and executing the AcSB’s strategic priorities. Focus on results by ensuring customer service, time to market, quality assurance and effective communication to deliver high quality products and mitigate the AcSB’s reputational risk. External focus and relationship building with key stakeholders by influencing and providing thought leadership in North America and internationally on high profile engagements including conferences, roundtables, key events etc. with IASB, National Standard Setters and other stakeholders. Directing and maintaining a cohesive staff team comprised of dedicated professionals including performance management, coaching and succession planning. The Position The Director’s leadership, combining strong interpersonal and facilitation skills with technical acumen, will bring together people and ideas, resulting in timely and high quality standards for the benefit of the Accounting Standards Board’s stakeholders. The successful candidate will need to: Establish and nurture senior level contacts with the various stakeholder groups, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and other global standard setters; Direct and guide staff to identify accounting and reporting issues; Design and direct a program of promotional and communication activities with key stakeholders The Candidate The preferred candidate will be an innovative leader with strong people management skills. In addition to being a professional accountant, the following attributes and skills are necessary: At least ten years post-qualifying experience. Experience and the ability to lead with imagination and creativity. Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills. Extensive experience, knowledge and expertise in accounting and financial reporting. Results orientation, focused on outcomes. Sound decision-making and judgment, and strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Superior ability in written and oral communication. Success depends on the candidate’s strategic thinking and communication skills, to enhance understanding among key stakeholders and ensure the AcSB remains relevant.
