CRA is considering cancelling or archiving its inventory of ITs in response to comments and recommendations contained in the Auditor General’s November 2009 Report to Parliament regarding the improvement and timely updating of technical information provided by CRA to taxpayers.
In this April 21, 2010 letter, CPA Canada expresses its opposition to this idea, arguing that the ITs are an important source of guidance for tax practitioners on CRA’s interpretation and administration of particular provisions of the Income Tax Act. CPA Canada suggests some alternative approaches to managing the bulletins so that tax practitioners can continue to have access to this useful resource.
