The Canada Revenue Agency’s increased auditing of NFPs to identify and address cases of abuse of tax exempt status has involved issuing these organizations “education letters” about their level of compliance with tax laws. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has written to the Minister of National Revenue to express the concerns of its members about the negative effects of these letters, and to seek clarification on their purpose and the broader objective of these audits.
CPA Canada is making this letter available so that members are aware of the chamber’s effort to explain to the federal government the impact of its NFP research and education program.
