Stephen A. Anisman, CPA, CMA Education and qualifications Certified Management Accountant, 1991 Chartered Professional Accountant, 2013 As vice-president, Finance and chief financial officer, Stephen is responsible for the financial and legal matters at CPA Canada. With over 34 years of accounting and business experience, he leads a team of financial professionals who assess the efficiencies, the weaknesses and the opportunities at CPA Canada to find a balanced approach to achieve the organization’s business priorities and operational sustainability. At CPA Canada, the finance team provides financial services to support stakeholders and the organization, acting as strategic advisors, measuring and analyzing organizational performance and leveraging financial expertise, resources and operational knowledge to help drive growth and deliver added value. Working in conjunction with the board, the Audit Committee and the entire senior management team, the finance department aims to support a strong enterprise risk management process, one that nurtures and encourages a strong risk culture built on our strong business values. The legal department oversees all aspects of CPA Canada’s legal activities and contributes to the success of CPA Canada’s Strategic Plan through the appropriate management of the organization’s risks, including reputational and litigation risks. The legal department also works closely with business units to help them with their specific legal matters and act as a quality control function, with the goal of achieving operational excellence and consistency across departments in the way legal issues are managed and addressed. Stephen joined the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) in 1986 as an accounting supervisor, became assistant controller in 1987 and controller in 1995. Prior to joining CICA, Stephen held a number of accounting and finance positions at GEAC Computer Corporation Ltd., and at Beaver Lumber Company Limited. He was appointed CFO of CPA Canada in January 2013. Always active in his community, Stephen participates annually in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in Montreal to benefit the Segal Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital, the Colon Cancer Walk in support of Colon Cancer Canada, and the Becel Ride for Heart in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Toronto.
