Deputy Chief Financial Officers’ Council: 2015 Innovation Award winner

CPA Canada honoured the Deputy Chief Financial Officers’ (DCFO) Council with a 2015 Award of Excellence in Public Sector Financial Management: – Innovation, for its holistic approach to delivery of financial management services.

In 2003, 14 visionary deputy chief financial officers (DCFOs) gathered to create the DCFO Council. Their objective was to strengthen financial management across the federal government by:

  • building capacity in the finance community
  • providing community-based feedback to the Office of the Comptroller General (OCG) on current and new policies
  • developing community-based solutions to issues and promoting best practices

Over the past 12 years the council has fully achieved the vision of its founders. It is well known for its work to improve capacity in the finance community, such as its “Financial Officer to CFO Career Path” program, and its ongoing work with Central Agencies to refine policies and initiatives to enhance public sector financial management.

Through its leadership and innovation, the council has made the finance community not only the most highly organized group, but also the most clearly dedicated to actively improving the delivery of its public responsibilities.
