This award recognizes a CPA Canada volunteer for their outstanding contribution and the significant impact they have made to the profession in the area of education. Such volunteers participate in the development of the professional education program, the professional exams and continuing education courses. The volunteer is recognized for their valuable expertise, excellence in their service, and their long-term commitment to providing the highest standards in accounting and business education.

The winner will be announced at the CPA Canada Volunteer Awards Gala in Toronto on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. 


Terry Booth, FCPA, FCA, CF

Collins Barrow Calgary LLP
Committee(s): Board of Examiners, Assessment Task Force

Terry received a Bachelor of Commerce degree with distinction from the University of Calgary in 1984. He articled with EY in Calgary and qualified as an accountant in 1987. In the mid-1990s, Terry left public practice to become the CFO of a publicly traded biotechnology company. He later became a part-time CFO for numerous early-stage technology companies. In 2003, Terry rejoined EY to help lead its mid-market audit practice, and five years later he joined Collins Barrow as a partner. Terry has extensive experience working with entrepreneurial private and public companies, including those in the technology, manufacturing, retail, agricultural and oilfield services sectors. Terry also has significant not-for-profit experience and has worked in a number of roles with many not-for-profit entities.

Colin MacLean, FCPA, FCMA

Dalhousie University
Committee(s): Board of Examiners, Financial Literacy Volunteer

Colin is currently an associate professor at Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education and an academic partner with the Credit Union Institute of Canada. He also provides consulting services in the finance industry, which has led him to consulting projects in Canada, Barbados, St. Lucia and Belize.

When not working, Colin volunteers extensively for both his community and his profession. From 2005 to 2009, he volunteered to represent Nova Scotia on the former Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Board of Examiners to review and approve the CMA entrance exams, case exams and board report. In 2010, he took on the responsibility of chair for the CMA Board of Examiners, which not only approves the exams but also recommends the pass mark. At the conclusion of his term as chair in 2013, Colin continued to provide his expertise to the CMA society as a member of the Board Report Review Committee. In 2015, Colin joined the CPA Canada Board of Examiners to continue providing his skills and experience in the review and approval of CPA Canada’s elective exams and the Common Final Exam.

In his community, Colin is a volunteer member on the Board of Directors for Shelter Nova Scotia, an organization helping the homeless in Halifax. He also volunteered as a coach for the Bedford Minor Hockey Association and for the Bedford flag football program. For four years, Colin served on the Bedford Minor Hockey Association executive, with his last position being vice-president of development.

Peter R. Norwood, FCPA, FCA, FCMA

Langara College
Committee(s): Board of Examiners, Enhancing Audit Quality, Education and Qualifications Advisory Committee

Peter is an instructor in accounting and past chair of the Langara School of Management at Langara College in Vancouver. He also lectures at the University of British Columbia. Before entering the academic community, Peter worked in public practice and industry for over 15 years.

A graduate of the University of Alberta, he received his MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He is a CPA and previously held legacy Chartered Accountant (CA) and CMA designations.

Peter is a member of the CPA Board of Examiners. He was a member of the Board of Evaluators for the former Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and served on several provincial committees and was involved in program development for the former CMA association of British Columbia. He is also a past chair of the Langara College Foundation.

Peter co-authored the Canadian textbook Accounting for seven editions, along with various authors including Charles T. Horngren, Walter T. Harrison, Linda Smith Bamber and W. Morley Lemon.
