From being named president of the world’s oldest accounting body to becoming PwC’s new chief executive, here are some accountants who have made the news

New CEO at PwC Canada

PwC Canada president Nicolas MarcouxNicolas Marcoux, FCPA, FCA, has been appointed as PwC Canada’s new chief executive officer. He will succeed Bill McFarland, who has served as CEO of PwC Canada since 2011.

Marcoux has been with PwC since 1989 and is currently national managing partner, Montréal office, major cities, and consulting and deals at PwC. He is a specialist in mergers and acquisitions and has carried out more than 100 transactions over the past 20 years.

Marcoux starts his new role on July 1.

Hood & Strong appoints first female MP

Susan N. MaloneSusan N. Malone has been named managing partner of the San Francisco-based accounting firm Hood & Strong LLP. She is the firm’s eighth managing partner, but the first woman to hold that position in its 101-year history.

Malone has been with Hood & Strong for more than 25 years, working with clients in a number of areas, including manufacturing and higher education. She succeeds Robert J. Raffo, who led the firm for more than a decade.

Hood & Strong claims to have one of the narrowest gender gaps in the accounting industry: close to half of its partners and directors—and 60 per cent of its employees—are women.

Malone took on her new role on June 1.

Manson named ICAS president

ICAS president Sandy MansonSandy Manson has been named president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, succeeding Brian Souter.

“I am extremely proud to take the helm at the world’s first accountancy body, founded by my predecessors more than 160 years ago,” said Manson. “We have a critical role to play in building public trust.”

Since 2007, Manson has been chief executive of Johnston Carmichael, Scotland’s largest independent accountancy and business advisory firm. He is also chair of the ICAS Brexit Advisory Group.

IIA elects chair for 2018-’19

Naohiro MouriNaohiro Mouri, executive vice president and chief auditor of American International Group, has been elected chair of the Institute of Internal Auditors’ 2018-’19 Global Board of Directors.

He succeeds J. Michael Peppers, chief audit executive at the University of Texas System, USA.

Before joining AIG, Mouri was statutory executive officer, senior vice president and chief auditor at MetLife Alico Insurance K.K. Japan. He also led audit departments at several banks and investment houses, including J.P. Morgan Asia Pacific and Deutsche Bank Japan.
