9 ways to boost your CPD

You’ve spent the summer lounging and puzzling over Pokémon Go. Now it’s time to resume fulfilling your CPD requirements. Coming up this fall, these conferences, courses and webinars will give you a professional edge.

CPD (continuing professional development) is at the core of being a professional. Whether you’re starting out as a CPA or have been in the business for years, you have many options to update your skills and knowledge.

September is conference month! Pack your bags and set out to experience another part of Canada, or take in a conference in your hometown. Most provincial associations hold a fall conference. Conferences are a fabulous way to gather knowledge and network with peers.

The ONE National Conference 2016
When and where: Sept. 19-20, Vancouver
What to expect: Jointly presented by CPA Canada and CPABC, this multi-track event focuses on leadership, financial reporting and accounting, management accounting and finance, and taxation. Optional post-conference workshops will be held on Sept. 21.
Keynote speakers include:

Public Sector Conference 2016
When and where: Nov. 8-9, Ottawa
What to expect: If you’re a senior financial professional in the public sector or with a not-for-profit organization that follows PSAB (Public Sector Accounting Board) standards, this annual event in the nation’s capital is the place to be. Can’t make it to Ottawa? Attend this conference live from your desktop, laptop or tablet.

CPA Canada courses provide person-to-person interaction and more in-depth study than conferences. Courses range from a few hours to a week in length and are offered online or in-person across the country.

In-Depth Transfer Pricing
When and where: Sept. 26-28, Toronto (satellite offerings in Ottawa and Calgary)

In-Depth Brokers and Investment Dealers
When and where: Oct. 19-21, Toronto
What to expect:

Income Tax for the General Practitioner
When and where: WEST: Oct. 29-Nov. 3, Kelowna, BC; EAST: Dec. 3-8. Collingwood, Ont.
