Professional ethics: New challenges and how to meet them

The ethics of professionals, including CPAs, is increasingly in the spotlight. How can you make sure you are making the best ethical choices, and helping your organization maintain an ethical culture? In this half-day workshop, you will:

  • learn about ethical decision-making frameworks
  • work through case studies
  • be part of a lively discussion on your personal responsibility as a CPA and business person

Karen Wensley, who teaches ethics at the University of Waterloo in Canada and writes the monthly ethics column for CPA Magazine, will help you improve your ability to work through the nuances of ethical dilemmas, and to convince your peers, clients and bosses to act ethically.

Course outline/description:

Part 1 – What is involved in making an ethical decision?

  • the importance of ethics to CPAs
  • frameworks to identify and make the best decision
  • how to convince others to act ethically when you are under pressure to do otherwise

Part 2 – Ethical Leadership

  • an ethical culture
  • how you can help create an ethical organization

Both parts include some lecture, case studies and discussion.
