Social outing 2016

Based on members’ voting results, Qinghai Province was chosen as the location for our 2016 social outing. Taking place from June 8 to 11, the event coincided with the Dragon Boat Holiday. Thank you to the Culture and Communication Committee for organizing this activity and helping members to register.

Sports activity 2016

CPA Canada badminton classes started on April 30, 2016. Badminton is well known and popular among our members. As in previous sessions, we offered both junior and advanced classes to our members, limited to 10 people in each class. The classes have been a great success as members continue to enjoy them!

CPAs: The right fit

On May 12, 2016, Anna-Marie Christian, FCPA, FCMA, principal, Professional Education Program at CPA Canada, delivered a seminar on “The right fit – How the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is developing accountants to meet business needs of the future.” She also provided hands-on advice to prospective volunteers for the CPA Canada Capstone 1 panel, which will take place in July.

Value-added tax (VAT) seminar

More than 30 members attended this VAT seminar on April 16, 2016. It was delivered by Andrea Yue, CPA, CGA, who is the director of EY’s Tax Services and a CPA Canada Beijing chapter board member. Andrea’s speech covered China’s VAT reform background, the latest policies, interpretation on key VAT reform policies and the implications of VAT by industry: financial, real estate, construction and life style services.

CPA Guangzhou chapter 2016 annual meeting

On March 5 and 6, 2016, more than 60 CPA Guangzhou chapter members and their guests attended this annual event. Activities included:

  • review of the chapter’s operations & NGO charity finance
  • great social event in the evening
  • tour to Chikan Town in Kaiping City, Guangdong

Special guests included David Lai, Gary Wong, Jadie Li and Mary Wong from the Hong Kong chapter, Richard Xie from the Shanghai chapter and Kylie Yin, member services officer of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Due diligence for mergers & acquisitions

Presented by GFC Consulting on May 20, 2016, attendees learned about the processes and methodologies for performing financial due diligence for mergers & acquisitions, as well as areas of focus, possible mistakes and a suggested action plan for implementation.

CPAs: The right fit

On May 17, 2016, Anna-Marie Christian, FCPA, FCMA, principal, Professional Education Program at CPA Canada, delivered a seminar on “The right fit – How the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is developing accountants to meet business needs of the future.” Anna-Marie also discussed the unification of the accounting profession in Canada, its impact on CPA Canada members, staying relevant for career success and becoming involved with developing future CPAs.

Business tax and value-added tax final reform

Presented by PKF China on April 16, 2016, this event was designed to meet the business needs of CFOs and senior finance managers. The session focused on Chinese tax policy changes and how attendees can lead their corporations to navigate challenges and meet business goals, while remaining in compliance with these tax rules.

Hi-tech enterprise legislation forum and successful business case sharing

Presented by GFC Consulting on March 22, 2016, this event briefed finance professionals on hi-tech enterprise legislation, including government policies, criteria and the process for being qualified as a hi-tech enterprise.
