Important change to ACAF program delivery Effective January 1, 2018, the CPA profession will no longer deliver ACAF applied courses. The profession will continue to offer ACAF prerequisite requirements and technical courses through CPA preparatory courses, while all ACAF courses will be delivered through accredited programs and courses offered by post-secondary institutions (PSIs). Beginning September 2017, select PSIs will begin offering accredited ACAF applied courses. Contact your provincial/regional CPA body for additional information. THE ACAF IS RIGHT FOR YOU IF: You have studied for a minimum of one year at a recognized post-secondary institution (i.e. college or university) or meet the entry requirements through your work experience. You are an internationally educated professional with education or work experience outside of Canada. You’re seeking a more challenging and rewarding role that allows you to be involved in more complex accounting and finance tasks, and to support management decision-making. You prefer to study at your own pace and choose electives that will give you the best opportunities for advancement in the field of accounting and finance in any industry. You are willing to dedicate two to three years of part-time study (on average), or complete your studies more quickly depending on credits already earned. THE ACAF PROGRAM IS: Applied: It uses authentic business scenarios that require you to demonstrate the application of technical knowledge. Integrated: Ethics, communications and other soft skills valued by employers are integrated into technical and elective courses, and hands-on use of accounting and business software applications enhance workplace relevance. Relevant: You can choose from a list of electives that will best position you for placement and advancement. Attainable: The ACAF can be completed in one year of full-time study or part-time at your own pace. If at some point any you want to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, your ACAF training will be recognized toward the undergraduate degree and specific knowledge requirements needed for admission to the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP). *Beginning September 2017, some post-secondary institutions will deliver ACAF courses in-person, with online delivery available in January 2018.
