CEO success study

Read this global PwC study on what the world’s largest companies look for in their leaders. This year’s report takes a special look at outsider CEOs and the circumstances in which they are being hired.

Over the last several years, more companies are deliberately choosing an outsider CEO as part of a planned succession, according to PwC’s 2015 CEO Success Study.

Key findings:

  • 22 per cent of companies are now making a deliberate choice to bring in outsider CEOs. This is up from 14 per cent in the previous four-year period.
  • CEO turnover at the world’s 2,500 largest companies rose from 14.3 per cent in 2014 to 16.6 per cent in 2015.
  • Only 10 women were among the 359 incoming CEOs at the world’s largest companies in 2015. At 2.8 per cent, that was the lowest share since 2011.
  • The global CEO is a myth. Just 28 per cent of incoming CEOs had international work experience, down from 45 per cent in 2012.
