Career milestone for Canadian CPA designation candidates

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) congratulates the 5,581 candidates who passed this year’s Common Final Examination (CFE).

TORONTO, December 1, 2017 – Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) congratulates the 5,581 candidates who passed this year’s Common Final Examination (CFE).

“Today is a proud day for these talented individuals, a career milestone on the path to achieving a globally respected accounting and business designation,” says Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CPA Canada. “Once achieved, the Canadian CPA designation will help amplify potential and open many doors for a career with a future, for the future.”

The national three-day, 13-hour evaluation assesses candidates’ knowledge, judgement and ethics. It is a critical component of the Canadian CPA certification program, a comprehensive and rigorous process designed to create collaborative strategic decision makers who navigate through disruptive change and chart businesses and organizations towards success.

Only those individuals who complete the entire qualification program are entitled to use the CPA designation.

“Today, we are celebrating an impressive personal accomplishment for these passionate and dynamic individuals,” adds Sandy Hilton, CPA Canada’s vice-president, precertification education. “These students have demonstrated exemplary dedication to their studies, and we recognize the sacrifices and perseverance it takes to complete the CPA program, culminating with the CFE.”

This year, the Common Final Examination’s highest standing recipient comes from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. John Wark of Crowe MacKay LLP, receives the prestigious Governor General’s Gold Medal award, along with the CPA Canada cash prize of $5,000. “It was pure shock and joy when I heard the news,” says Wark. “Winning this award doesn’t feel real yet. The results of all my hard work are starting to come to fruition; I am excited for what the future holds.”
