CPA Canada celebrates milestone accomplishment for candidates

TORONTO, December 9, 2016 – Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) today congratulates the 3,516 candidates who successfully passed the profession’s challenging Common Final Examination (CFE).

TORONTO, December 9, 2016 – Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) today congratulates the 3,516 candidates who successfully passed the profession’s challenging Common Final Examination (CFE).

“These ambitious individuals should be proud of achieving this career milestone as they continue on the path to earning the Canadian CPA - a globally respected business and accounting designation,” says Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CPA Canada. “Their extensive training will prepare them to drive success by anticipating the unexpected, making sense of complexity and harnessing technology and data for informed decision-making.”

Sandy Hilton, CPA Canada’s vice-president, precertification education, says passing requires dedication, perseverance and patience. “This is a day to focus on the significant accomplishment that comes with passing the CFE. It represents a great personal achievement for these individuals as they look to earn a designation that can offer a lifetime of great opportunities.”

Hilton adds: “Families, friends and co-workers have likely played important supporting roles in helping these candidates reach this impressive milestone.  We extend a special thank you to all those who provided valuable support in making this accomplishment possible.”

  • The prestigious Governor General’s Gold Medal (and a CPA Canada cash prize of $5,000) for the highest standing in Canada has been awarded to: Ms. Julie Cardinal from PricewaterhouseCoopers s.r.l. / S.E.N.C.R.L. in Montreal, QC.
  • The CPA Canada regional Gold Medal awards (and a cash prize of $2,500) for achieving the highest standing go to:
    • Atlantic Canada: Mr. Andrew Garrett Nickel, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Halifax, NS
    • Ontario: Ms. Sanly Zi Shan Li, KPMG LLP, Toronto, ON
    • Western Canada: Ms. Lindsay Mclean, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Calgary, AB
