What's brewing now

Mark Murphy hopes to turn his new Toronto brewery into a top destination for beer drinkers.

Two years ago, accountant Mark Murphy followed his dream of starting a craft beer business. His goal back then was to open a brewery one day where he could experiment with making different types of beer.

That day came in February, when Murphy and his wife and business partner, Mandie, brewed their first batch of beer in their new Toronto-based brewery, Left Field. “Now that we’ve opened a bricks and mortar brewery and have started building our team, we aspire to be a top employer and a top destination for beer drinkers to visit,” he says. The timing is perfect to get up and running — the warmer months ahead call for two of Murphy’s favourite things: baseball and beer. “For this Toronto Blue Jays season, I’m predicting some beautiful days at the ball park with a cold beer in one hand and a hotdog in the other.”
