On December 18, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker reappear in Canadian theatres. Star Wars: The Force Awakens screens 38 years after the original movie.

1.3: Billions of dollars in revenue generated by director J.J. Abrams’ 12 previous pictures, including Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams is the fifth person to direct a Star Wars release.

1: Occasions creator George Lucas appeared on screen in a Star Wars movie (a cameo in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, at the Galaxies Opera House). In 2012, Lucas sold his company and the franchise to Disney for more than $4 billion.*

2.2: Billions of dollars in total revenue for the Star Wars franchise to date. Global box-office receipts for The Force Awakens are expected to double that number.

11: Millions of dollars spent on the making of the original 1977 Star Wars. The latest film’s budget is estimated at up to $200 million.

31: Millions of YouTube views in the 24 hours following the April release of The Force Awakens’ second teaser trailer. The teaser immediately boosted Disney’s stock by $2 billion.

63: Age of actor Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) while filming The Force Awakens. Sir Alec Guinness was a year younger when filming scenes as Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1976.

450: Dollars earned per week by Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) in the first Star Wars movie. Producers’ fees and actors’ wages totalled $750,000.

1,000: Dollar value of some vintage Luke Skywalker action figures. Revenue for new Star Wars consumer products is expected to reach $5 billion over the next year.
