Poll of the month: Got the message? — September 2014

Monthly poll on why some CPAs check work-related messages during nonwork hours.

More than half of Canadian CPAs check, send or reply to work email or voice messages during nonwork hours, according to our latest reader poll. But there is a clear demographic divide: those under age 40 are far less likely to be technologically tethered to their work than those 40 and older. Why? For one, 64% of respondents in the older group report having a work-supplied smartphone; just 41% of the younger group do. And 64% of all respondents say they feel more compelled to respond if their employer is paying the phone bill.
