Professional Matters: News and views for members — March 2014

A CPA Canada blog helps members stay on top of all things tax, and a new primer on environmental and social disclosure makes reporting easier.

Primed for Disclosure

Companies have a new online resource to help them report social and environmental matters. A Primer for Environmental & Social Disclosure, jointly published by CPA Canada and the TMX Group, provides helpful definitions, discusses the business drivers behind environmental and social reporting and sets out key principles. It also covers everything from mandatory disclosure requirements and industry-specific key performance indicators to award-winning voluntary sustainability reports and noteworthy initiatives. Almost every page links to useful national and global resources. Download your free copy at cpacanada.ca/primer.

Tax talk

It's the most taxing time of year. Luckily, CPA Canada maintains a blog to help members stay on top of the tax game. Conversations about Tax covers topics such as the simplification of taxes for small businesses and Canada's need for formal standards for tax preparers. The Tax Tools and Resources page is a one-stop shop for information and dialogue on Canadian tax policy and practice. Other pages cover tax policy and administration, CPA Canada's six volunteer tax committees and professional development opportunities.

Accountants seeking an easy-to access clearinghouse of opinion from the best and brightest people in the tax field (including Ernst & Young, PwC, Deloitte and KPMG) should check out Thought Leadership Round-up. Visit cpacanada.ca/taxation and click "Taxation" in the left-hand column.
