IMAX theatres a hit in China

IMAX Theatres enjoyed their biggest single box-office opening day in China on January 31, 2014.

Canada's IMAX Corp. announced in February that its network of theatres in China enjoyed its biggest single box-office opening day on January 31, 2014 — the first day of the Chinese New Year.

Driven by the action-packed martial arts movie The Monkey King, the company's 140 screens in China grossed a record $1.8 million. The previous single-day record of $1.5 million in China was established in 2013 with Iron Man 3.

IMAX has now grown into a global brand, with headquarters in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles and offices in London, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing.
