Emily Sannandeji hopes to make boring printed training manuals a thing of the past.

The Halifax accountant partnered with two computer programmers (one of whom is her husband) to found Modest Tree Media Inc., a tech startup whose web-based software allows companies in the military and aerospace industries to create interactive 3D training programs — how to assemble an engine, for example — in house without the need for a coder or computer animator.

“3D animation is more realistic looking, and the interactivity lets you gauge if users are learning correctly,” she says. Plus, the courseware can be formatted for tablets and smartphones used in the field.
