Audit committee fundamentals

Build a strong understanding of what it takes to become a successful audit committee member – from learning about the roles and responsibilities of each individual to Canadian regulatory requirements, the principles of corporate governance, and more.

Before joining an audit committee or fulfilling your term on one, it’s critical to understand what the core fundamental responsibilities are of an audit committee. This includes how to be effective and productive, as well as having a solid grasp on the purpose audit committees serve for an organization.

In this course, you will learn about the key roles that an individual will play on an audit committee, with a focus on corporate governance, regulatory requirements audit committee members need to follow, and how to ensure independence. You will also explore other qualifications and factors that can have an impact on the effectiveness and performance of an audit committee, including:

  • size and composition of the committee
  • role of the audit committee chair
  • how to conduct effective meetings
  • leading practices for the induction and ongoing education and evaluation of members
  • development and maintenance of an audit committee charter

Note: This course is part of the Audit Committee Certificate. It can be taken independently or as a part of the full program. Although the content will be made available in December 2021, you can purchase the course in advance.
