Do We Have Leadership Development Completely Backwards?
For decades organizations have been providing millions of leaders with billions of dollars in leadership development. Despite our best efforts, our research shows that most employees are not getting the leadership they need. While we often turn to leadership development to fix this, recent research shows that only 28% of net-generation leaders are being trained on what they perceive are the most important things they are expected do as leaders (DDI). So, the majority of people are not getting the support they need and the majority of leaders are not receiving the training they need to help. Since the number one talent problem for CEOs is the development of the next generation of leaders (DDI), we should be able to enlist the support and resources we need to solve this problem. We just need to stop doing the same things we have always done a nd expect a different outcome. In our time together we will challenge the fundamental assumptions behind leadership development programs. We will help you see training and development investment in a new light.
