Wendy Stephanson

Wendy is currently the CFO for the City of Ottawa, assuming this role in December 2019. She is accountable for all the City’s financial affairs providing vision, leadership and strategic direction for planning, directing, evaluating and improving the development and delivery of departmental services and programs. Wendy began her municipal career at the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton in 1995 and has held various roles including: Implementation of Overpayment Recovery for Social Services, Audit and Consulting services working with various clients across the city on service improvements, Leading the amalgamation transition team to create the new finance support service post-amalgamation and Leading Revenue Services where she held various roles in property taxation, assessment, collections and cash handling, collection of defaulted Provincial Offences Act fines and recently administration of the Municipal Accommodation Tax

Wendy is the Vice President of the Ontario Municipal Tax and Revenue Association (OMTRA) which represents revenue and taxation professionals in municipalities across Ontario. She has served on the Board of Directors for over nine years in several roles including Director at Large, Secretary and Second Vice President.

Wendy is most proud of working with OMTRA’s Education Committee in developing educational material for the Municipal Tax and Revenue Administration program administered by Seneca College as well as the re-development of The Municipal Practitioner’s Guide to the Tax Sale Process used by municipal and legal professionals throughout Ontario. In 2018, Wendy received her Certified Municipal Tax Professional (CMTP) designation.

Wendy was honoured to receive a Province of Ontario Volunteer Service Award in 2017 for her work with OMTRA. Wendy has also participated on numerous intergovernmental committees and working groups on municipal assessment, revenue and taxation matters.

Wendy is a member of the Big City Hub Task Force where the six biggest City’s in Canada have collaborated up to address the COVID-19 pandemic and develop a safe restart for Canada’s economy.

Wendy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and is currently completing her CPA designation.
