Thomas is a manager within KPMG’s Climate Change and Sustainability group with three years of non-financial audit experience in environmental and greenhouse gas (GHG) verification. As a sustainability practitioner, Thomas has extensive experience in GHG assurance with clients in Ontario in the following industries: communications, chemical production, petroleum mixing and distribution, alcohol production and university campuses.
In addition to Ontario GHG verification work, Thomas has been a leading member of the Sustainable Hamilton Burlington (SHB) Sustainable Business Initiative since its inception in 2012. In this role Thomas has helped Hamilton region businesses, not regulated to achieve emissions reduction, to develop sustainability goals through materiality analysis and to set reduction targets. This work has led to the development of data tracking and reporting tools for businesses ranging in size from five to over 1000 employees.
In the summer of 2016, Thomas organized SHB’s integration with the Ontario Sustainability CoLab network. Through this work, he developed a carbon reduction target options paper and a series of community stakeholder engagement sessions. This enabled the development of the framework for which emissions reductions targets for participating organizations are formed in the Hamilton area. The consensus achieved through this stakeholder engagement process enabled the development of a carbon reduction initiative, one that is both credible and inclusive for all participating organizations in the Hamilton region.
Thomas was recognized in June 2015 by Sustainable Hamilton, and the 15 reporting organizations developing sustainability reports with Sustainable Hamilton, for Outstanding Leadership for development and administration of the reporting framework.
