Rob Allwright

Rob has over 25 years of indirect tax experience. He advises clients on Canadian federal sales taxes, including GST, HST and excise taxes, as well as provincial sales taxes such as PST and QST. Rob’s clients include many large organizations in the real estate sector. In particular, Rob’s clients in the sector include new home and commercial builders, commercial and residential property owners/lessors and property management companies.

Rob has been with KPMG since 1998. Prior to joining KPMG, Rob was with the Department of Finance (Canada) where he was responsible for GST and HST on a range of issues, including the general charging provisions, place of supply, imports and export rules. While at Finance, Rob assisted in the development of policy for the introduction of HST in the Atlantic provinces.

Before joining Finance in 1994, Rob was manager in the Canada Revenue Agency’s Rulings and Interpretations Directorate. Rob was responsible for the development of administrative policy and rulings relating to the transition from the previous federal tax system to the GST, as well as for cross-border issues, including imports and exports.

Rob is a frequent contributor and speaker at various indirect tax forums including the CPA National Commodity Tax Symposium and meetings/conferences of national associations. Rob was on the CPA Advisory Committee to the 2009 and 2015 National Commodity Tax Symposiums.
