Mario Seyer

Mario is based in the Montreal office of PwC and he is the firm’s National Indirect Tax Leader. He serves clients in all industries on GST, HST, Quebec Sales Tax, retail sales tax, customs, sales and use tax, excise tax, fuel tax, value-added tax and other indirect tax matters. He advises and assists clients with respect to planning, compliance, audit and other related issues. He has extensive experience serving clients with interprovincial transactions and an international presence. Mario has been the advisor of a number of clients in the financial sector, including banks, investment managers, brokers, managing general agents, investment plans, property and casualty insurers and life insurers. He assisted a number of financial institutions when the HST was introduced in British Columbia and Ontario (July 2010) and when the QST was harmonized with the GST (January 2013). He also has extensive experience in dealing with GST matters whether in the course of audits or in respect of planning or compliance issues.

Mario has spoken widely on indirect tax matters to professional or business groups or associations, including CLHIA, the Tax Executive Institute, the Association de planification fiscale et financière (apff - Symposium, annual conference), CPA Canada (Symposium), l'Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Counsel for International Tax Education. He was an indirect tax lecturer in the Graduate programs in taxation of McGill University and Université de Sherbrooke. He was also a lecturer in the apff's in-depth GST course for financial services for several years. He has written or reviewed comments published in CCH's commodity tax products and he writes for CCH's tax newsletter. He has been a member of the GST Leaders Forum since inception and is a member of CPA Canada’s Commodity Tax Committee.

Mario is a fully bilingual Chartered Professional Accountant who graduated from McGill University. He is a member of CPA Canada. He has been specializing in commodity taxes since the introduction of GST in 1991.
