Kas is a CPA, CA, and Certified Fraud Examiner and is certified in financial forensics. He is also the president of the Ottawa Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Kas is a graduate of Concordia University where he received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1989. He received his Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy in 1991 from McGill University. With more than 25 years of professional experience, he has been involved in a number of high profile investigations on behalf of public and private sector clients. His investigations have included contribution agreement spending and claim irregularities, contracting irregularities, billing schemes, administrative inquiries, domestic and foreign corruption and other investigations involving allegations of fraud or wrongdoing. He has worked on behalf of, or in conjunction with, federal and provincial departments and agencies, Crown corporations, public and private corporations, legal counsel, insurance companies and police authorities. He has prepared numerous expert reports for both plaintiffs and defendants, relating to the calculation of damages in a variety of cases involving fraud, breach of contract, personal injury, wrongful dismissal and other commercial and personal disputes. He has prepared reports on various insurance related matters including business interruption, property loss, fidelity bond, personal injury and professional negligence. Kas has appeared as an expert witness with respect to damage quantification in the Ontario Superior Court and the Federal Court of Canada.
