Gianluca Garbellotto

Gianluca is a pioneer of the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), the Extensible Markup Language (XML)-based computer language that is rapidly being adopted worldwide for internal and external business reporting, intra-governmental reporting and communication of detailed audit information.

He is a globally acknowledged expert on the business and technical aspects of XBRL and the XBRL Global Ledger Framework (XBRL GL), and has extensive experience in their implementation in the government and the private sectors. He is a former member of the XBRL Standards Board, a member of the XBRL Best Practices Board and chair of the XBRL Global Ledger Working Group, as well as a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations, participating in UN/CEFACT as a domain expert.

As an active member of various working groups within the XBRL International Consortium he helps lead the development of XBRL’s standards for internal use and is a strong influence on XBRL’s technical specifications. He is a frequent and sought out lecturer and trainer on XBRL and XBRL GL topics, and has authored numerous articles and white papers.

Gianluca has extensive experience in the financial industry as well as in accounting and financial software development and implementation, with a specific focus on enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, consolidation/business intelligence applications and XML/XBRL implementations. He has been engaged by numerous governments in the Americas, Europe and Australasia, in particular for his broad experience and active involvement in the use of standardization in red tape reduction initiatives, such as Standard Business Reporting (SBR) programs. His clients in the private sector include global companies and leading professional, consulting and technology firms.
